British, so most people won't get the reference, but ever since their first episode together, my mum and I have held the opinion that paramedics Jeff and Dixie on BBC's Casualty "argue like an old married couple".

They did eventually get married, but not for any romantic reason, and they're still married now.

Why did they get married? (I have no idea what this is but it sounds interesting!)

Dixie wanted to make her father proud of her, as he was dying and wanted to see her married before he died. He didn't know that she was a lesbian, until he saw her kissing another woman, which gave him a fatal heart attack. Jeff did, as it's an open secret among the paramedics and emergency department staff, but he agreed to it.

I can't believe someone was talking about Casualty on FS and I missed it! But yes, Jeff and Dixie's relationship is totally awesome, and oddly probably the most successful relationship anyone in Holby has ever had.

I think it works because they've never even tried to make it romantic. They're friends, confidants, emotional supports, but they never cross over into trying to make it work romantically, and that's what makes it a stable relationship. Romantic relationships in Holby just turn into an unholy mess of anger, tears, accusations, the occasional separation or divorce and, sometimes, bloodshed.
