"They're so married"

(Anonymous) 2014-04-04 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if you don't ship them romantically, what are some fictional relationships where the two members remind you of a married couple?

The two guys from NCIS Los Angeles. I think one of the other team members actually made a joke about it, too.

When the show first mentioned Sam as married I was so confused. Clearly he was already married to Callen; it didn't make sense.

Steve and Danno on Hawaii 5-0 (the new one). I don't ship it, but they are basically heterosexual life mates at this point.

I can never decide if I think FitzSimmons are so married or two halves of the same person or just twinsies.

Agreed on both parts. For FitzSimmons I think the show is leaning towards married, but 'two halves of the same person' is what I tend to think of them as.

Hotch and Rossi from Criminal Minds. The a couple of characters have joked about it and referred to the them the "mom and dad" of the team as well

Re: "They're so married"

(Anonymous) 2014-04-04 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So much this. Given the way Rossi's actual marriages went, he's probably more designed for a work-orientated relationship in a lot of ways. And there was a while there where he was pretty much the sole sane point in Hotch's universe.

Vimes and Vetinari. Don't ship it, but their vibe just screams it.

Vimes gave him a look that said: if you take this further, I will have to lie.

Vetinari retuned one that said: I know.

...

'You yourself are not too badly injured?' Vetinari said aloud.

'Just a few scratches, sir,' said Vimes.

Vetinari gave him a look that said: broken ribs, I'm sure of it.

Vimes returned one that said: nothing.

With scenes like that it's no wonder Vetinari and Sybil are always teaming up against Vimes

British, so most people won't get the reference, but ever since their first episode together, my mum and I have held the opinion that paramedics Jeff and Dixie on BBC's Casualty "argue like an old married couple".

They did eventually get married, but not for any romantic reason, and they're still married now.

Why did they get married? (I have no idea what this is but it sounds interesting!)

I can't believe someone was talking about Casualty on FS and I missed it! But yes, Jeff and Dixie's relationship is totally awesome, and oddly probably the most successful relationship anyone in Holby has ever had.

Steve and Danno from Hawaii Five-0 which have been mentioned a couple of times, also Finch and John from Person of Interest... Heck John brings Finch tea and food and they do tend to bicker.

People I don't really ship or am neutral towards shipping:

Jed and Leo on The West Wing are literally married. With grown-up kids and everything. Charlie is Jed's favorite, and Josh is Leo's. Abby and her daughters are Jed's "other" family, you know that trope where a rich guy has a mistress he keeps in a fancy apartment? Like that, except the fancy apartment is the East Wing of the White House. And no, I don't even ship them, I ship Jed/Abby like crazy, but it's still true.

Starsky and Hutch are married in the sense that when they're not alone together, it's way, way, way easier to talk about them as a single unit rather than two people. "Best friends" is misleading because that implies the ludicrous idea that their friendship exists on a comparable continuum with their other friendships.

Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Carson are married too. They just don't notice it because they're so busy running around cleaning up after their kids and bosses. It's best this way.

Holmes knows he is married to Watson. For some reason he keeps forgetting to point out this fact to Watson, who has never picked up on this. He sees but he does not observe. Then he married someone else and Holmes was like "crap, I should have explained this thing to him better."

People I DO really ship:

Uhhhh...to be honest, I ship characters when I want them to develop to be different from what they are like in canon. When I'm totally satisfied what I have in canon, I don't really ship so I don't OTP ship too many "married" friendships that I can think of.

Oh wait yeah -- Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. However, they seem to be stuck in a Groundhog Day Loop set during that stage of their marriage where Harley was having a torrid affair with this terrifying lunatic, and they can't seem to ever get past it.

Suikoden, Viktor and Flik (at least by the second game, when they're living together and bickering happily)
Ace Attorney, Phoenix and Edgeworth (by the time AA5 rolls around; there was stuff in the CANON DIALOGUE there that made me wonder if someone at Capcom was writing their own curtainfic)
Tiger & Bunny, Kotetsu and Barnaby (popular fandom joke is "they got married during the timeskip" and ... we're not entirely joking)

It occurs to me that all of the pairings I mentioned start off fairly antagonistic at the start of the canon and develop into something that makes me go "so married". And I do ship all three, but I'm also really happy just to see them interacting in their usual "so married" way even if romance is never mentioned or even suggested. I just want to see the characters exhibit the same chemistry as in the canon.

Shawn and Gus

Turk and JD

Fran and Balthier (I also ship them, but they are seriously married.)

Timon and Pumbaa almost go without saying.

Alexander/dra (depending on which gender you chose at the start of the game) Munroe and Telsia from the ST:Voy: Elite Force game probably would be literally married if Alex weren't so dense in such matters or if Telsia could just grow a pair of space-ovaries and clearly state her feelings for her squad leader, avoiding big words and utilizing visual aids if necessary. Until that happens, they'll have to settle for "basically married."

Jesse and James from Pokemon might as well get married, 'cause even though they're probably both gay, it's not like they're going to find anyone as fabulous as they are, not to mention that they sure as hell ain't gonna find anyone else willing put up with their shit.
