At this point, I'm not surprised at ANYTHING that happens there or on any of the Mark Oshiro sites. It is about as far from a safe place as any site/forum/community. Only if you agree with his opinions, stances, and biases are you welcomed there.

I went there as part of the Buffy brigade and I was excited to see someone who was excited about new shows, books, and things. Then things started to get weird. And then scary for me. Not because of the subject matter but because of all of the bullying that takes place there. I am a bisexual, non-christian, rape survivor with disabilities. I have been bullied to the point of seeing suicide as the only escape and what Mark and his mods do to people who don't agree with him was massively triggering for me. The complete disregard for what Willow did to Tara and what Buffy did to Spike versus the outrage of what Spike attempted to do to Buffy bothered me. It bothered me a lot. But nothing took the cake more than what Mark and his mods did to the people who he disagreed with. First he called them out on his tumblr and then sicced his fans on them. Even when he "called them off" later the damage was done.

Mark's a bully and he encourages bully culture by refusing to acknowledge that opinions are just that, opinions. There is no right or wrong opinion. Only when those opinions become actions do they become subject to moral scrutiny. Mark and his mods actions are wrong and bullying and triggering. He stifles all thought that doesn't correspond to his very narrow worldview.

He's as bad as the worst bigoted, racist, sexist conservative. And in my view, he's worse. At least with the bigot you know where you stand and they don't claim to be anything but. With Mark and his sites, which he espouses are safe havens it's a lie and betrayal when what you thought was true turns out to be false.

TL:DR Version - I don't like Mark or any of his sites for reasons.

It's sort of funny how two completely different sides of something can end up doing the same crazy thing.

I feel you anon and I hope you don't go there any more. The new interest in old fandoms isn't worth the crap you have to wade through to get there.
