Yeah... In a remote kind-of way I think it's kinda cute... but it's really not my thing. I like to keep Morgoth and Sauron as bad guys, probably because I like to preserve Boromir's enemy and the Silmarils' kidnapper as being bad.

The closest I come to anything nice about them is acknowledging that Melkor could be outwardly nice, when he wants something, and when it serves him well to act so, but in the end, he's still evil. Like listening to his Elven lieutenant who is arguing for kinder treatment of the silmarils.

That interpretation of Morgoth could definitely work, given how he played his hands while sowing seeds of discord among the Noldor back in Valinor.

The stalled fic that Elven Lieutenant comment was based on, Melkor got him on side in Valinor by being friendly, helpful and teaching him how to use his arcane skills better.

Valandhir once said her POV on evil is that it very rarely ever tells lies. It tells the truth, but twists it in such a way as to direct people's thoughts how it wants them to think.
