What you have to understand, and this applies to the majority of fandoms, is that the people you see on your corner of the internet are not the majority of fans.

The majority of fans are casual fans; they buy the media and talk about it, but they don't actively participate in fandom.

I wouldn't worry about their success or failure because of a few people you know.

I agree with the above anon: I am not familiar with this specific fandom, but rest assured there are always a few over-invested fans who can sour a fandom if you get the impression they are in the majority and you are in the minority. If it's not SJ issues, it will be something else: since they tend to be the most vocal, it inevitably colors our impression of the fandom.

About your impression of your fandom dying, though... yes, that's tough, but it's the nature of fandom: the active time of any fandom is essentially transitory. Heartbreaking, but happens to the biggest fandoms. :(

But certainly it has no impact on the commercial reality of the band's success, no worries there: the above post is 100% on that score too.
