House Reno Pics

[personal profile] th0rns_n_r0ses 2014-04-05 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
So yesterday [personal profile] kaijinscendre asked for some pics from my recent living room and kitchen floor replacement. Pics in second comment.

This is my kitchen not too long after we moved in. See that dark brown line across the floor? That's the subfloor under where the vinyl squares were chipping and peeling off the floor. It was worse and stretched almost all the way across the floor by the time we had the money to replace it.

This is the floor under the stove after we scrubbed it and the beginning of the fresh plywood we laid down.

Beginning of the new floor.

New floor!

The new floor looks amazing! Did you put it in yourself? If so, kudos to you on a job well done. Are you planning any other reno work?

We did put it in ourselves. Thanks, we were really happy with how it turned out! Our next big job is having a new sliding door put in, and doing some repair work around the house, and eventually putting all new floors in the rest of the house too.

I agree with you 110%. That's my project this summer once it's warmer on a regular basis. They're incredibly dingy and now they look even worse.

Thank you! Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any good before pics from the living room. The carpet was really really gross, though. And after:

How long did it take (I saw you did the work yourselves)? How much did it cost?

Re: House Reno Pics

[personal profile] th0rns_n_r0ses 2014-04-06 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
We started Friday morning and finished up Monday night, which was longer than we thought it would take. But when we pulled up the carpet in the living room, we found a ton of dust and dirt, and that the carpet padding had dry rotted and fused to the subfloor in places. It took an extra day and a half to scrape the padding off and shopvac all the nastiness.

The floor was $1.89 a sq foot, and we laid down a thin layer of plywood over our subfloor to give us a clean surface to install on. Total price for flooring, plywood, wood putty and incidentals was about $800.

It is pretty awesome. I love having the freedom to do what I want in the house. It's a lot of work, but it's so worth it to be able to do things the way you want.
