Re: Have we talked about CA: Winter soldier yet? (Spoilers inside)
I fucking love Steve a lot, he's adorable and kind and honorable and I'm never going to forget that scene between him and Peggy. That was one of the more heartbreaking moments in the MCU so far, and he handled it perfectly. Good job, writers!
Actually, all the relationships stood out to me in this film. I love how Steve and Sam met, why they teamed up (Sam was great, I want more of him, and they handled PTSD nicely), I loved Natasha and Steve's banter and supportive, friendly connection (they are totes becoming bff's), and the Steve and Bucky bits just slaughtered me. Hell, Natasha and Fury's relationship was unexpectedly touching as well; I'd like to see more of that in the future. (Maybe when Marvel gives Black Widow her own film, because she REALLY fucking deserves one. Every screen she had was fantastic and she was one of the best things about WS.)
I loved Maria Hill's part too, even though it was short. I've never watched HIMYM but this woman is a goddess and I love her; she does so much with so little. Has great comedic timing too, and makes looking badass effortless.
I liked the Arnim Zola scene, and was waiting for Alexander Pierce to be revealed as Red Skull. I still can't believe it didn't happen. I'm a little disappointed the Cosmic Cube didn't show up, but not surprised. My shipper heart loves that Bucky didn't need it to remember Steve. (Actually, my shipper heart loves every moment they spent together, even the ones where they were beating the shit out of each other. Maybe even ESPECIALLY those because they were so beautifully choreographed. All the action scenes looked so much more raw and real and brutal in this film; I enjoyed them much more than the ones in previous MCU films.)
On a similar note, I liked how dangerous and competent Steve was here. He was great in Avengers and Cap 1 but didn't come off as particularly lethal. I'm glad they fixed that and that Cap is getting a chance to lead a bit more and show off his skills. (Dat speech! The hand to hand combat! THE ELEVATOR SCENE! Steve is now a bit terrifying, as he should be.)
They did a great job with The Winter Soldier, too. I love they kept the "Who the hell is Bucky?" line, and I love how robotic and emotionless Winter Soldier is until his scene with Steve, and then shortly after where it looks like 'this version' has started to doubt and feel for the first time. Sebastian was so brilliant in the "But I know him" scene; his confused desperation made my heart ache. (Does anyone do puppy dog eyes better than this man? IDK.)
I AM WITH YOU TO THE END OF THE LINE. I loved the parallels of Bucky then Steve falling, and when Cap dropped his shield, holy shit...that was a great moment.
...I just have a lot of feelings about this film, and those aren't even half of them (Cap and Nat being pretend!married, Fury's 'death' scene, Steve failing at hiding the USB drive, Cap single-handedly taking down the helicarrier, Natasha revealing herself near the end, SHIELD agents standing up to Pierce and his orders), and I'm going to shut up now. But I really liked it and wonder where the MCU is going to go from here because boy, they weren't kidding when they said this would be a game changer.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-06 12:01 am (UTC)(link)But you know what I really loved? I loved that there wasn't a bunch of shitty in-fighting among the protagonists. I mean. It's a movie that's built on not trusting people, but Steve Rogers looked at that and went, NOPE, not on my watch. There was no artificial, stupid drama, just friends taking care of each other and being awesome and I LOVE THAT SO MUCH, HOLY COW. It might have been my favorite part of the movie.
Re: Have we talked about CA: Winter soldier yet? (Spoilers inside)
IA, I feel like there's something in her origin story that we haven't heard yet that would have her scenes with him in Winter Soldier make so much more sense. We must have missed a lot between those two, and they probably have a much deeper connection then we imagined. I do hope we get a Black Widow Origins story one day, because I'd love to see how Fury factors into that.

Oh man, me too. There was enough trust issues going around with the main storyline, we didn't need fighting among the protagonists. I didn't mind the cast butting heads in Avengers, but I'm pleased that we're through with that now and everyone knows they need one another and even want to be there for one another; they've learned from their mistakes and realize what needs to happen.
Now I want more team-up flicks! If only Thor: TDW had been this good, tbh.
Re: Have we talked about CA: Winter soldier yet? (Spoilers inside)
A lot of the time we see a whole lotta extra content for some charaters on the blu-rays
Re: Have we talked about CA: Winter soldier yet? (Spoilers inside)
Plus, apparently Cap 3 is going to follow up and 'finish' this part of the Bucky storyline. This is torturous for me. It sounds like Buck Buck is a much more central figure next time, so lets hope that means Sebastian Stan gets more than 15 minutes of screentime.
Re: Have we talked about CA: Winter soldier yet? (Spoilers inside)
I liked Bucky well enough in the first one but omg this film, give me more tortured puppy eyed Bucky plz. I have a mighty need. And, and Steve trying so hard to get Bucky to remember him, my feelings.
Sam was brilliant and I need more of him, and a Black Widow movie.
Re: Have we talked about CA: Winter soldier yet? (Spoilers inside)
The teasing was ADORABLE. I loved that they were even doing it while hanging the SHIELD dude off the roof, lmao. Those two don't miss a beat.
I have a stupid weakness for Bucky so my feelings aren't even remotely new, but they are certainly stronger than ever! I'm glad Winter Soldier is making people stand up and pay more attention to him; he deserves it! (And Steve's friendship with Bucky is one of my favorite things in the Cap films. I love who supportive and sweet they are with each other. Steve needs him so much.)
Sam should team up with Natasha AND Clint! Would be interesting.
