OP, can you casually mention the good bits? Surely if you two were friends from it there must have been? Or did the bad stuff overshadow everything else?

And you might be surprised. I left a website on... pretty awful terms, but not only am I now able to see the other side, I miss the things that made the site fun. There's drama and stupid people everywhere, not just fandom stuff.

My friend said that they got rid of everything to do with the fandom. I think it was soured as a whole.

nayrt, but sadly you might just have to let this one go as far as she's concerned, then. Try to find other people that are interested in it! I'm assuming you don't want to mention the fandom here, but if you don't mind doing so, maybe fire it out and see if you get any nibbles. :)

I agree. Having been in a position similar to your friend, some people just aren't capable/comfortable with revisiting past fandoms, especially if they parted ways with it on less-than-happy terms. Maybe in time they'll eventually reach a point where they've reached a certain level of peace (or at least, a level where the mere mention of it doesn't always bring up the bad memories), but bear in mind not everyone is like that.

If it's that particular fandom is that much of a discomforting subject to them, then I echo the above anon's suggestion that you might as well have to let the issue drop -harsh as that may sound- and/or seek out other people who are interested in the same thing.

But how long ago was that? If it's been a couple years, she might be interested in talking about the show/book/whatever with someone who's never bullied her. You'll never know unless you ask.

Of course I'm assuming you want to talk about the fannish thing, and not the fandom itself.
