I would really hate it if people started selling fanfic. I don't really care about fanart and the legal issues are kind of iffy for me, so I hope this kind of thing never comes up with fanfic.

What the above commenter said. People have been selling fanfic for YEARS. It's just that once it's published, it's legitimized in most peoples' eyes and no longer considered fanfiction... which is silly, but there you go.

I'd be a bit nonplussed if people started, like, charging to view fanfic, but I'd feel the same way about people charging to view fanart.

However, I'd be perfectly happy if fanfiction could run on a commission model, similar to fanart.

...Honestly, it probably easily could as long as the resulting commissioned fics aren't posted online. Nobody would ~knooow~. Illicit fic request smuggling! How dastardly.
