What bugs me about this comic (and others) is the thing where it's just a single frame each time. I tried reading it, but I just couldn't maintain interest in single-frame updates, and some part of me gets so irrationally annoyed at jut having that one frame that I eventually kind of quit.

It's like a storyboard. Instead of 'summarizing' the action like most other comics do, this one portrays most of every action in individual frames. like, one frame is a character lifting an arm and the next frame is the character lowering the arm, without it having any meaning on impact on our understanding of the character. That's fine if you're going to animate it later, but as a comic it's just exhausting and makes the pacing glacial.

You're right, it really does feel more like storyboarding to me than an actual comic. Even when I can read a lot of panels at once, I still find it very difficult to enjoy, because it's just so choppy to my eyes.

I think part of that might be because she at one point worked as a storyboarder/animator over at Dreamworks. Makes sense, but the storyboarding style doesn't always work, especially for a big, sprawling story like the one she's trying to tell.
