Twitter shade... on tumblr? I'm a bit confused. Can someone explain this to me?

No clue. People on Tumblr don't really bother with Twitter. Facebook and Reddit are their enemy.

See, that's what I've thought. I've heard of shade but I don't know what Twitter shade is. Like, are people on tumblr throwing shade on twitter users they follow? Or throwing shade on twitter for tumblr users they follow? Something else entirely?

I am going bananas trying to figure it out. Kinda. Well, I'm sitting here mildly curious, which is rare. So... BANANAS I TELL YOU!

I've never heard of shade, period. What the hell does throwing shade on someone mean? o.O

They can do it behind their back. They could also do it to their face.

If I were to hazard a guess, based on things I've read in like, wank reports and stuff, I'd guess that it's referring to using twitter to complain about people on tumblr, whether obliquely or specifically.

But then... how do people know they're the same person?

Well, it'd be like a BNF throwing their weight around and tweeting things like "[reference to person BNF doesn't like at that point in time]", things that their fans/followers would understand, if that makes sense?

IDK, I've only seen it once or twice, and it was referring specifically to BNF, so I could be wrong.

The idea was that the person could "take the higher road" by not naming names, but it's still totally obvious to their followers/fans.

I get that but I think I just wasn't aware that there were people who knew another person's tumblr and twitter. Why follow them on both?

It's easier to use twitter on your phone than tumblr?

I don't know, honestly, but sometimes people will post links to stuff on their twitter, so if someone moved from LJ to tumblr, it might be a good way for their non-tumblr fans to keep track...

I use both, and follow some people on LJ and Twitter AND Tumblr if they use all 3 and are a quality human being that I like. Twitter is significantly more conversational than Tumblr, and people post different content on each medium.

Why wouldn't you follow both accounts? I think that confuses me more. You don't post the same things on Twitter as you do Tumblr. All my LJ friends I follow on all three, LJ, Tumblr, and Twitter. None of our posts are the same on any of those platforms. LJ is full of fic and fest announcements and sometimes posts about RL. Tumblr is all gifs, pictures and funny conversations that none of us made ourselves to begin with (except for the artists I follow). And Twitter is where we simple talk about the mundane things that are going on in our lives that are not important enough for an LJ post, and to share quick links to what we're doing/reading etc.

I think the OP is making a comparison in that people on tumblr will just unfollow/block you if they don't like you whereas on twitter they'll post insulting tweets about you? That's how I understood it, but I could be wrong.

Hmm, comparison between? But, like, Tumblr totally doesn't do that. They tend to be very forward about wanting you to change your posting habits.

I thought of a girl I know who is really superficially nice to people on tumblr and then says horrible stuff about them on twitter. Idk how she knows that those people aren't following her twitter too but whatever it's her bullshit.

That's... so weird. And... mean.

I feel as though I know exactly who you're talking about. I would name and shame her, but she recently had a death in the family, and I'm not as cold hearted as she is.
