On a Watsonian level (that is, within the context of the story), sure I like her. She's sweet and bookish. But Doylistically she just comes across as terminally insipid and stupid. I'm not sure what's up with Emilie de Ravin either - I liked her just fine on Lost, but here she keeps pulling all these weird facial expression.

Not helping is the fact that Belle is my favourite Disney princess, and here they've reduced her to a complete ninny.

How have I never come across the the terms Watsonian and Doylistic to refer to the inside and outside of a story?
That is brilliant and I am stealing it.

My guess is that because the writing is so terrible, the actress isn't giving it much effort.
We know she can act, she was great in Lost, so it's either the writing and direction, or else she just isn't bothering.
