What purpose would a Rule 63 Doom serve besides pandering to small group of SJWs and Tumblr users?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-09 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That. But I am pretty sure Doom has already been cast with a male actor.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-09 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, not anymore.

Don't you know that Rule 63's now transphobic because it fetishizes trans identies?

Things like this are supposed to have a purpose beyond "I think this sounds like a fun idea"?

Exactly. Even people who want DOOM 63 shouldn't really want Doom 63 in their film. Because that means they had so little they got desperate as hell.

I thought you meant Victorian Von Doom and I was trying to figure out if this Fantastic Four was supposed to be set in the 1800s.

Same. Doesn't help that one of my classes atm is a Victorian Lit class...

(Holy shit some of the poetry is fucked up!)

Though, Marvel 1802 might be intriguing.

Meanwhile I wondered for a split second who was making a new Final Fantasy movie with Von Doonm...

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-04-09 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I could get behind this too, actually. The "uniforms" would probably be gorgeous.

(I'm guessing my picture choice probably didn't help with your assumption either; sorry.)

(Anonymous) 2014-04-09 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Am I like the only one here who actually thinks the idea of a female!doctor doom would be really cool? I mean they already race-swapped a character, I don't see why they couldn't gender-swap another character.

But knowing the film industry and comicbook fandom in general, it probably wouldn't go down well wouldn't it? :(

(Anonymous) 2014-04-09 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Because changing a character's race is not as significant as changing their gender.

I don't really see it as "cool" but I don't see it as offensive or wrong, either. It's just a thing that is (or would/could be).

I think it could be cool in theory. It could be really, really awesome if they thought about it and executed it well and cast the right person and knocked it out of the park. But I have precisely zero faith in the ability of whoever is making the film to do it without having it be awful or at best bad.

I kind of just want them to keep it simple and just make as basic a Fantastic Four movie as possible (in fact, in some ways, I would kind of prefer it if they kept Doom mostly out of the movie and saved him for a possible sequel, rather than trying to do the origin AND the Doom story, but I recognize that's probably impossible). Just prove that a good FF movie exists before they try anything complicated I guess

Honestly, I do like the idea, but I think the only way it could plausibly work would be if Reed Richards was also genderswapped. Otherwise you have a female villain who's got a huge chip on her shoulder because her male rival is the superior scientist. Unfortunate implications, ahoy!

For real, I've never thought about it before this secret brought it up, but I see no reason why it SHOULDN'T work. They might do a shitty job? Sure they could, but even with a male Doom they could still make a subpar villain and a shitty movie

If they cast a female Doom, I have the horrible feeling they'd play up both her vanity and her obsession with Richards and wind up with a vampy femme fatale rather than a tinpot dictator.

Nobody seems to be talking about the main subject of the secret, but to be honest, I don't have anything else to say about it, either. I guess it's a cool idea?

I really like Ioan Gruffud, so from that perspective, I wouldn't mind seeing OP's idea happen. Of course, I also really like his Fantastic Four film (the first one, I haven't seen the second one since theaters, but I didn't feel positive about it then).

The femme fatale thing is what I see happening too.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-09 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
You're a little too late, anon. Doom has already been cast. He's going to be a guy, and he's not Ioan Gruffudd.

I love your idea though.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-04-09 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Figures. I hadn't heard he'd been cast already, so I submitted the secret thinking the role was still up in the air. Thanks for informing me.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-09 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He's not substantial enough. You need someone a bit thickset and powerful to play Doom. Because Doom is powerful.

Is no one gonna mention Gruffudd's not a terribly good actor? No? Okay. I thought that opinion was more widespread.
