Sometimes it can't hurt to be nice and optimistic, at least that's the way I see it. I'm harsh and sometimes mean when I'm emotionally upset or when someone does something REALLY put of line, like the anon downthread who made a nasty comment.

It's really awesome, and what's more is that the main protagonist isn't interested in love, even though there is romance in the story. It's also a quick read. I rec the hell out of it!

Eh, still kinda screwed up, yeah. Character development can go a lot of ways. If they chose to take it in the direction that makes a character skinny and hot...eh, well, that's a choice they're making.

IMHO, I don't understand why people would do this. I mean, I remember fic MSTing, I remember pits of voles or whatever, but hell, fanfics are stories people write for fun and share with other fans hoping those fans will have fun. It's the ultimate example of "if you can't say something nice." If it is someone trying to be a real writer, heck, real agents/editors/teachers will correct their mistakes or give them hard reality, or even a gentle beta will at some point. There's no reason to rip on it aside from getting the cheap satisfaction tearing down something someone else made to make you feel smug and superior.

What? 2000 words per day isn't a lot at all, particularly if you're inspired. I can get that much down in an hour or so, if I sit myself down and do it, and I'm not a fast writer by any means.

Also, an older author is almost definitely going to have a significantly better NaNo than a teenager. They've been writing for longer, for one, and they've got more life experience to draw from. Not saying that there aren't good young authors, because there are, just not as many.

But this secret maker didn't post about how someone insulted their fic and it made them sad. They posted about how everyone fawned over their fic, but then someone insulted it and their delicate writerly soul was so wounded that they took their fic down and flounced from the fandom and now can't even bear to watch the show.

I'd probably be more sympathetic if they hadn't ruined it for the other 99% of people that apparently liked their stuff.

They disappointing a lot of people and anybody who didn't archive their work lost something they liked. All within an artists rights to take their stuff down but I have zero respect for it.
