Don't feel bad. It's a well made show. Like seeing a Renaissance painting of something horrific (most likely Biblical) come to life. Like Yeah, Judith is hacking off Holofernes' head but look how Caravaggio captured the light and the dark in his work. Brilliant.

That's...a really great description of the show, actually. Because the images, the colours, the music - it's all so fucking beautiful in Hannibal, and sometimes it softens the blow a bit. Of course, sometimes it does the exact opposite, too. :)

This fandom has a very nice archive of fanfics, OP. Most of the time, you can sort it by kudos and usually get a pretty high-quality fics (aside from a/b/o fics since I don't...read those). Sure, half of those is pwp and the other half is abusive relationship with gaslighting and fucked-up imaginary, but isn't that what we're attracted to.

Anyway, I just read The Hole is Still There by Croik and it's very creepily awesome. It's a Silent Hill AU, so there's not much gore but horror? Maybe you can stomach horror, OP?

I'm not THAT averse to violence, but Hannibal is so much gorier than I ever thought a show I would be this obsessed with could be.

It's also beautiful, though.

I generally hate gore too, but there's something different about Hannibal for me. Like, the goriness rarely even registers. (there are definitely a few scenes that have me covering my eyes - some moments in the bee episode, for one - but not many). Maybe it's because, a lot of the time, the gore is in the form of corpses, rather than dying/suffering people? Like, seeing someone getting their insides cut out is way more distressing to me than seeing a body with the insides cut out.

But damn, I love this show.

Finding quality fic in Hannibal fandom is difficult for me, but these two fics I can rec - wholeheartedly, without reserve. Just the right amount of darkness without being too depressing, and the right amount of fluff that's still believable amongst things like Stockholm Syndrome and dubious consent.
