I dunno what happened, but those pages sure look sad... And I've always liked Toad, ever since back when the Misfits was formed (too bad they didn't get their own comic).

A) Aw, Toad got fired? I mean, I'm pretty much away from the X-books these days (just too complicated), but Toad's always been my favorite, and I liked the idea of him working at the school (in the old, post-movie days of Toad fandom, I think it actually was a pretty common head-canon, certainly mine, that Toad would eventually wind up at the school in the movie-verse, preferably as a gym teacher. I was kinda happy to see that happen in Ultimate, except by then the book was...eh). Poor guy just can't catch a break.

B) Will they PLEASE have some consistency over how they draw Toad? He hasn't looked like that since X-men Forever (the Kevin Maguire one), he's never been green-green. The 198 mini had a good look for him--not attractive, but not horrifying, run-down and tired.

I feel like Toad's the kind of character who always needs to be kinda pathetic, but it's gotta be done just right or it just comes off as annoying.

I'm not reading the title, but whenever I see a bit of it, I get confused...is it actually in 616 continuity?

I'd been under the impression it is, but, seeing the situation that got Toad fired, I'm seeing Husk being evil, so I'm lost...

It is in 616 continuity. Toad was fired for being a mole on the side of the Hellfire Academy and putting students in danger. He did it out of love for Husk, who got a pass for her behavior because her mutation was messing with his mind and she's being treated.

Not sure whether you realized the "his" there is a typo, so just dropping in way after the party is ended to let you know that the "his" is a typo-- Husk's mutation was messing with her mind. Just in case that was throwing you off.

I mentally corrected the typo so fast I didn't even realize it said 'his' until you mentioned it.

Husk's mutation affecting Toad's mind would make even less sense.

I gotta catch up on my comics, but if this is yet another stupid heel-turn to make a reformed character bad again under a new writer I will be annoyed. Not that I liked Toad in particular I'm just tired of character development being shat on because a new writer wants to go back to status quo.

of course wolverine's an asshole. he goes after his teammate's wife for years, has a higher body count than the rest of the x-men combined (not including phoenix), refused orders, responded to simple misunderstandings and petty arguments with teammates with attempted homicide, seriously brought up the idea of killing an innocent teenager in front of the whole jean grey school, and he fires toad for going to look out for husk and the students.

he still does heroic things, but right now, compared to wolverine, cyclops feels like someone i'd have a beer with.
