I say Possession by AS Byatt

But only because lunabee34 convinced me to buy this book recently, so it would mean the least possible amount of effort for me to join in.

I still have to read that and I'm pretty sure I will like it when I do.

It's sitting beside me right now. But I'm still part way through my current book and trying not to have too many on the go.

Pick Possession, book club, and give me an excuse to be the book dilettante I know I truly am!

Hm, I need to read AS Byatt too. Never heard much praise for her, but I know she's a big fan of Pterry, and I live by the rule 'Person recommending book you love = book recommending person you'll love'

I was pretty bored up until about the last 1/5 and then it was really cool. So I can never decide how I feel about that book.

AS Byatt is one of those writers I think I should like but for some reason I don't. Angels and Insects is one of only two books I couldn't finish (the other is The Tommyknockers). I have also read an essay of hers, as well as introductions to other works, and every time I'm bored out of my mind.

That's how I feel about her novels. I love Edith Nesbit, but I just can't bring myself to pick up The Children's Book after slogging through Possession. (the peacock turban was too much for me) I like some of her short stories, like "The Thing in the Forest".

Oh sweet. I love her. She is one of my very favorite authors. Unlike someone else downthread, I think Angels and Insects is pretty well divine, and Possession is my favorite book ever on most days. I would recommend all of her short story collections as well.
