The reasons people defend him, from what I can tell, are:

a) they've seen the part of him that isn't just a troll;
b) his troll posts are incredibly tame (yup, even this one!). We've had trolls here who are far worse and far less sensitive (I mean, shit, we had one troll who was telling someone that she was too mentally ill to ever be able to trust herself in social situations, and that she should therefore cut ties. And they were framing it as concern).
c) a lot of us are actually not very good people.

To expand on c: think about it. Think about the way people react to things on this site. Think about the things that people have said. We all act like it's okay because it's not "trolling." But many of us have said absolutely terrible things to people, things that make people not even want to post here, and it's all brushed aside. Compared to what many say in sincerity, what insanenoodlyguy posts in jest is nothing.

So, at the end of the day, why do I personally not mind him? Because I know he's not being genuine. I'm far more concerned with the behavior of people like iceyred, who are being sincere in their dickishness and contempt, then I am about the behavior of an admitted troll.

Yeah, that "I'm not being sincere" bullshit excuse doesn't fly with me. Neither does the "there's worse people than him" excuse. And that "worse trolling" example? Yeah, I've seen noodles pull shit like that. I've seen him tell people to kill themselves. I've seen him tell people they're not worth anything. I've seen him tell people that their probably right when they worry their friends don't actually like them. He's an asshole, and I don't care if it's "genuine" or not, he has repeatedly made asshole comments and somehow gets away with the behavior. Imo he's just as bad as iceyred. I wish they'd both go away.

As it is, I'm leaving. Today was the final straw. I know I'm overreacting to this thread but it's really just the final straw on keeping quiet and dealing with the dickish behavior. I've been a signed in regular here for years and it's just gotten more and more toxic lately and I'm sick of it. There are some really awesome people, I've made really excellent friends through this comm, but the toleration of noodles and iceyred and people like them has just piled up and I'm out. Which obviously people won't give a shit and will probably mock me about this whole reaction, because that's the type of comm this has become. Congratulations all!

I haven't seen him do any of those things. If he has, then it's wrong, and he absolutely should be called out on it.

But honestly...I don't understand your reaction at all. I've been frequenting this comm for a long time, and despite the fact that a lot of people here are kind of terrible, it's actually quite a bit nicer than it used to be. When I first started coming here, it was an absolute minefield. Now, you can actually find some decent conversation and a shoulder to lean on.

...wait. Is this some really epic mocking of the OP? It just hit me: you're acknowledging that there are awesome people and that there are good things, but the fact that there are some bad things too is making you leave. You also acknowledge that you're overreacting, but you don't care.

Just deleted my account and I honestly wasn't going to come back but I checked just once to see if you had replied so I'll answer you, no, I am not mocking the OP or trolling. As I said, I know I'm overreacting but I've had a really shitty time on this comm lately and the assholes just seem to stand out more than the good stuff for me. And it's probably not helping that rl issues are piling up at the same time.

I honestly didn't even think of the parallels with OP, but I definitely empathize with them. Obviously.

I am glad that you still enjoy the place. But it's not fun for me anymore so I'm out.

If this is real (and I sincerely doubt it is), then it's someone who rarely comments. I went through some recent posts on a whim (sometimes I'm obsessive, okay) and didn't see any strike-throughs.

When you delete your account you can delete any comments you left at comms. So it would more likely be a (deleted comment) mark than a strikethrough.

Also it is possible that they've been signed in account "for years" but have recently been posting anon. That's the route I've been taking, and I'd still kind of consider myself a "signed in user" it's just nto quite recently.

There was one time I didn't take a suicide thing very seriously. I will not go into detail, case was not happy and that was one of the few times I've gotten deleted and I respect case and what they do so I'll admit I was wrong on that one.

The rest of this shit I've got little idea what the fuck they are talking about. I do recall somebody who sounded like a complete cock whining that their friends were responding to them being a complete cock and I seem to recall giving them some revelatory advice on their living penis status... maybe that's the friend thing?

If this is a troll, this is one master troll. Because I believe I recognize this anon's "Booo it sucks here why isn't case freezing this" carping which means they have run a hell of a long game.

I don't always get along with Noodly myself and i don't always agree with him, but I've seen his sincere posts FAR MORE than anything that may be cruel (genuine cruel. he posts that very rarely), but I'm fine with him.

Chard gets on my nerves more so than him, but I see sense in their posts as well.

It's happened three times, I think?

Once I greatly overreacted to something and attacked the character of somebody i then had to conclude was undeniably a better person then I'd treated them as.

Once there was the time I mentioned above where case stepped in cause I was straight up out of line and he was right to do so.

A third time I misread somebody's post and my sarcastic response was subsequently cruel as hell instead. I believe that one was frozen. I don't really keep links to my shame, but I'll cop to it.

this time however? not at all. Either one of two things is happening here:

1. Anon is lying through their teeth, they aren't going anywhere, this is an attempt to make me look bad which fails because I'm the admitted troll, looking bad isn't really a problem.

2. Anon is a huge over-reactor, which they admit, and has lost the game just as much as op has, and my attitude towards Op applies to them subsequently: If they can't even handle the benign tumor that is me they aren't ready for the real cancer.

Yeah, in all seriousness, Noodles, I generally actually really like and respect you, but I think this particular comment (the one that started this thread) was inappropriate. Even discounting the (probably troll) account-deleter, many people have called you out on it.

Maybe you're one of those people who just lets everything roll off your back, and that's an admirable quality. But it's important to recognize that not everyone has that quality, some people have a really hard time with it, and the whole "tough love" routine really does not help everyone. It can sometimes be really detrimental actually.

I'd probably be more sympathetic if they hadn't ruined it for the other 99% of people that apparently liked their stuff.

They disappointing a lot of people and anybody who didn't archive their work lost something they liked. All within an artists rights to take their stuff down but I have zero respect for it.

See this attitude just makes me think that you do feel entitled to someone else's work. It IS within their rights to take it down, as you said. That means you trying to make them feel guilty about it is a dick move.

Also, if you really love something, you probably should archive it rather than complaining when the author decided they didn't want it public anymore.

It's not even necessarily permanent. OP has the option to put it back up if they wish. But neither you nor anyone else has the right to try to control it.
