I know it sounds dumb, but to me, as an adult with teenage children, I can see how it can have the effect of highlighting how it's okay to be 'different', and that's something we ought to hear when we are growing up.
There are perhaps some themes I'm missing, but on the whole, the themes seem to be good ones.
