I'm beginning to realize teachers forced me to work with pain in the ass kids who don't want to do any of the actual work for a reason: They grow up and become your coworkers.

You've been working here for almost two years and you don't know what we do? Were you dropped as a child?

Story behind rant: lady came in to ask for a permit. Coworker said we don't issue those. Lady called me a little while later. We do issue those permits (the lady didn't need one, but that's beside the point).

I work for local government. Nothing we do is complicated. The lady did not ask for anything out of the ordinary. Coworker is just stupid.

Anyways, I apologized for the confusion, took the lady's name and number, and boss-man can handle it.

Some people would prefer to tell whatever lie they think will get people to leave them alone the quickest/not be mad at them than to make the fairly minimal effort to seek answers to questions they don't know the answer to or to just do their jobs. I'm always a little shocked that people think this is really the easiest thing to do and lack the foresight to see that this tactic could seriously backfire later.

That sounds like a horribly boring way to live their lives. Yeah, the path of least resistance is easy, but it's also boring and fulfilling.

Is this a...misfire? 'Cause otherwise that's either a really weird non-sequitur or a really creepy acknowledgement that you know the anon.

It's all good! :D I did wonder for a second, but I've been working there for longer than two years and I really doubt the people I work with hang around f!s. Honestly, I thought maybe my rant had inspired one of your own and you were working off of it.

I like your version. It's a lot less embarrassing than what actually happened. Let's headcanon your version.

I'm sorry you have crappy coworkers too. Mine once looked me right in the face and told me they wouldn't do their jobs.

Those are the same people who always end up fired and wonder why the world hates them, sadly. :/ I had a coworker do that to me once - I asked her to participate in an office project, and she was all "it's too hard, you know?" Oh I was livid. I refused to do the project ever again after that, actually. No one else gave a shit, so what was the point?

WTF? It's a group project, she would have had other people there to help her and answer questions. How hard could it be?

Makes you wonder what other opportunities she passed on because it was 'too hot' or 'too cold' or 'too hard' or too whatever.

My supervisor actually told me to come to him with documentation whenever my idiot coworkers does something like this. He's fed up with their stupidity too.

Well, see, it may have involved her staying five extra minutes after work or coming in five minutes early. That's literally the time it would've taken. :/ And yeah, you do wonder.
