"you can't roleplay as anyone but white people if you're white, you have a bunch of your own characters don't touch my POC characters" . This argument I keep seeing never ceases to sound like "DON'T TOUCH MY TOYS THEY'RE MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE"

There's a huuuuge difference between dressing up as a caricature of another race to mock them and dressing up as a character you like because you fucking like them.

I saw this on Tumblr recently. One of my followers got bitched out by someone because they cosplayed Cecil from WTNV and they happen to be white. WTNV is such a shit fandom, I swear to god.

And Cecil doesn't even have a canon appearance. How did they know it was the "wrong" cecil?

At least we know Carlos is dark in some ambigious way.

Yeah, I just don't get it. It's not like there's a limit to how many people can cosplay one character at the same time, or ever, so no one's taking anything away. I've seen some people complain about this and they really do sound like a fragile child.

That is truly so bizarre, I understand being skeptical of someone painting themselves brown for a role - just, don't do that in the States, it's got an unfortunate history - but just putting together an outfit of a brown character is not fucking treason. It's doesn't henceforth tear that character from the desperate hands of naturally brown cosplayers.
