She wasn't fridged. It's true. I wish they had showed her funeral though, that would have been really nice. I hope she isn't forgotten in S4.

Did her death serve a purpose other than causing the male characters pain, or otherwise acting as a plot device?

The actress asked to be let go of. It's not fridging in the comic book sense, no. Plus, they did NOTHING with her death.

Her death didn't cause Scott undeniable manpain and give him strength to continue. Her death was a bit of a plot device, but the writing on the show isn't good enough to actually make it as such. Maybe S4 will prove otherwise, but for now I wouldn't say she was friged as much as Crystal Reed asked to leave.

I'd still call that fridging in the context of the show, but you're right about Teen Wolf having weak writing. I doubt they could have killed her off in a way that didn't look like fridging.
