Because it's the only children's show I can think of off the top of my head in which there are a variety of female mains who are allowed to mess up, hold different personalities and still all be considered good people. None of the "Being this type of girl is okay, but this type isn't."

Seriously. This is what I love about the show, so many female characters with such variety and it proves that you can make a full-female diverse cast.

I really like that there's more than one token tomboy and more than one kind of girly girl.

I think that's a huge part of it. I mean, my favorite pony is Rarity, which...she's the fashionista! I'm not supposed to like those kinds of characters! But the show gives different sort of personalities and the flaws and virtues of each of them, and Rarity doesn't come off as a shallow "girly girl"(in the old 90's use of the term), she comes off as a professional and a girly-girl, and that's okay.

Rarity at least seems to be far more interested in setting trends, not following them.

I haven't watched it since about mid-way through season 2 but I remember Rainbow Dash being a pretty awful person (well, pony). I really wanted to like her too because I love her design.
