I loved Sam/Steve but then Steve went and literally de-brainwashed Bucky with the power of his love.

I found their friendship in the first film one of the weaker aspects of it. Not that I didn't buy that they cared about each other, but it just wasn't INTERESTING. Peggy, Erskine, and Phillips all interested me more. So yeah, not seeing it.

Even if I were though it's par for the course with MCU fandom and I shouldn't be surprised.

Well, I do think "de-brainwashing with the power of love" was what they were going for, what with Steve refusing to fight and "I'm with you till the end of the line" and everything. Whether it worked for you or not is a personal thing.

I'm not saying that didn't happen. I'm just saying I didn't feel the slash vibes, and yes I don't think Steve/Bucky would be as popular if he weren't white.

"even when I had nothing, I had Bucky".

Come on, you telling me that isn't slash bait? You make it sound like fangirls just pulled the pairing out of their ass because it's two white guys.

No I certainly don't mean to imply that. Compared to huge ships like Tony/Loki and Clint/Coulson, heck even MCU Steve/Tony, they're practically canon.

That's a given, but I think it would still be more popular than Sam/Steve. The backstory and the angst are working against Sam/Steve on that one.
