Vegans who feed their cats vegan diets should be banned from owning pets. Cats are obligate carnivores. They need meat-based diets to stay healthy. They also need taurine, which is found in normal cat food but not in broccoli, or they will go blind.

I don't care what dietary decisions people make for themselves, but when they have another living being who is wholly dependent on them for basic sustenance and survival, they are morally obligated to provide for its needs in a way that will keep it healthy. Don't want to feed a pet meat? Don't get a cat.

Agree 100%. I think they automatically fall under the banner 'crazies' though.

Throw in snakes and most dogs and you've also found my berserk button.

Snakes? Are you fucking serious? Cats and dogs are bad enough, but snakes? Mother of god, i can't even.

Also hippies who feed hummingbirds artificial sweetner instead of sugar water.

People are so fecking dumb.

What the fuck is their logic for using artificial sweetener?

I think on that one, it's less "Animals shouldn't have sugar" and more "this is our superior dietary choice no doubt it will work just fine for the animals"

IDK why the crazy side of vegans are so adamant on keeping animals that don't align with their lifestyle and forcing the pets to eat unnaturally? It's enough that I wouldn't trust them to feed a rabbit.

I probably shouldn't have read those threads.

I want to take every vegan who forces their lifestyle on a carnivorous/omnivorous pet and grind them up to feed the poor dears a proper meal.

People try that with snakes?! I think I'm almost too confused to be angry.

As a snake owner, I don't believe it. Anyone who claimed to even try to feed a snake a veg diet is a troll. You wouldn't even be able to get the snake to consume tofu or whatever. If you force-fed the snake with a tube you could get it down it but it'd just regurgitate, I'm sure. So, probably just trolling trying to further enrage people.

Yeah no kidding. I'm having a tough time buying the snake thing. Cat and dog, maybe. Snake? Troll.

I am personally against feeding snakes (and other animals) live food (such as rodents), though - it's dangerous both to your pet, and seems inhumane in a captive animal scenario. Unless you can't get your snake to eat dead mice or something and it's a matter of your pet's health, I really am against live feeding.

I've long since become disillusioned with what people will do with animals - so I wouldn't be surprised that people would try and probably end up with a starved snake. Thankfully most of the wank seems to be over someone asking if they can do it and not many actual vegan snakes.
One of the links I gave anon above was vegans talking about how it's better to kill the snake and let all the feeders live as the "more moral" option and. Urgh poor snakes it's not a numbers game :(

There probably are some trolls too tho, there's a few posts where I wasn't certain if it was serious versus a troll.

Mice need to die. in large numbers. For the mice's sake and everybody else's. otherwise we'll have entirely too many mice.

Pet snakes do not affect numbers of wild mice. In fact, more (domestic) mice are bred as "feeders".

They would if you caught your own mice like a real man.

I think my brain breaks when I try to understand those kinds of vegans.

Especially considering how many other sweet and furry vegan pets there are to get instead of cats or dogs. Hamsters! Guinea pigs! Rabbits! You can have a pet and not torture them with your philosophies, but people want to have their way no matter who it hurts.

Vegan cat owner, and 100% agreed. Our cats WILL eat meat because otherwise they will become extremely sick.

If I was to get a pet now, I quite possibly wouldn't get another cat, but the ones we have? They came first and their needs will ALWAYS come first.
