OP did. The person we're talking about is female.

Also, since your tone is immensely patronizing, I feel like doing a bit of ~shrieking~ after all. Because, yes, it is victim blaming to call someone stupid for not going out of their way to actively avoid violence. It's not just about whether or not someone deserves it, it's about responsibility. And what you clearly do is asserting that a victim of crime shares some of the responsibility just for being stupid. Which is victim blaming. Saying it isn't, and policing my tone before I even said anything doesn't change that in the slightest.

Thank you.

this is so dumb. When you tell someone to avoid dangerous places you aren't doing it to call them stupid, you're doing it because you don't want them to get hurt. It's working on the knowledge that there are people who prey on others and that you can take preventive measures. You can't stop dangerous people from existing, but you can try to avoid them.

Look, this isn't even implying rape. You're more likely to get mugged by a stranger than raped. Victim blaming rape is way more nuances than "don't walk through dark alleys". It's a risk, considering that people get mugged in the middle of the day and in broad spaces, you shouldn't get into places where it's even more convenient for criminals

If somebody wants to avoid violence, and then DOESN'T devote a reasonable amount of effort to avoid violence, they are in fact stupid. If somebody argues that this is anything but stupid behavior, they are also being stupid. Like you right here.

Everybody is responsible for themselves. That means recognizing that some situations are unideal and should be avoided.

You're welcome by the way. That is a cue for you to thank everybody who responded to your charged question, seeing as how you so blatantly wanted this fight.

NAYRT

Why is it a bad thing to expect ALL adults to behave responsibly?

It's not a bad thing per say, it's just an unrealistic thing to expect.

It's not a bad thing at all.

But it's responsible to plan for what happens should they not.

You can damn well bet I got patronizing after you knee-jerk accused me of sexism I never displayed. I'm not OP and was not talking in terms of gender or type of crime because that had NOTHING to do with the point being made, yet YOU decided to pluck some assumptions out of thin air.

Here's some more patronizing for you: you are an idiot and need some reading and basic LIFE comprehension. Telling someone not to do stupid shit IN ADVANCE is not victim blaming and you are doing a disservice to all the pwecious women you think you're advocating for by arguing otherwise. Common sense is a thing. Self-protection is a thing. Avoiding dangerous situations to a reasonable extent is a thing. If I decide to drive, totally sober, at 2 am on New Year's, I should not be BLAMED if a drunk driver hits me. But that is a thing I don't do because I feel it is STUPID and a hugely heightened risk. I bear no responsibility for the drunks or the harm they do to me when I am acting within my rights and following all laws - but the wisdom of going out there in the first place is something I have to own as my choice. Stop conflating the fucking issues in a strained way just because you want rah rah girl power to mean we chicks should get to do whatever we want without ever being called on the stupidity we are just as capable of men of engaging in.

I'll just be over here now, howling at the hilarity of you accusing ME of tone policing you while you get on me for being patronizing just because I called a spade a spade and anticipated the next pat uber-feminist thing you'd probably say (which lo and behold! What do you know! Shock of shocks.) You're the only one here policing tone, you idiot, I actually engaged with the content of what you were saying. Learn what your fucking SJW buzzwords MEAN before throwing them around next time.
