Me too, on the SMH thing. Not an abbreviation, but I originally read "cishet" as a proper noun of some sort pronounced "kish-ette". I blame it on the fact that the people who use it don't believe in using capitalization, generally.

I pronounce it "sis-hett". I don't think it's an acronym. "Cis" and "het" are prefixes.

I know that now, I just didn't when I first found it. It made more sense once I gave up trying to figure it out and just Googled the definition.
