The poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins.

I know that sounds pretentious, but "Carrion Comfort" is pretty much the only reason I haven't walked into traffic yet.

(Also, weirdly enough - Radiohead. So many of their songs are depressing, but they were comforting to listen to, because it described my feelings perfectly.)

Windhover. We did it in English class during one of my worst years in school, and it's stuck with me ever since. 'Brute beauty and valour and act'.

Same with John Donne's sonnets, actually. I used to go some where private and read 'Thou Hast Made Me' out loud, because it really does feel like pleading to the universe to give you some help for once, but in much prettier and stronger language than I can manage on my own.

I understand Gerard Manley Hopkins. Inversnaid is the poem that does it for me. It's very comforting, even though (perhaps because?) there's a part in it about suicide.
