Japan, China and Korea race bend as well when they adapt foreign myths and no one say anything.

Nothing will ever be as ridiculous as that Japanese movie about Romans where the Romans were played by Japanese actors. Nothing.

I believe it's this movie. Time traveling Romans through magical baths!

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait they made a movie out of that? The manga is pretty fun, though.

....Hot Tub Time Machine?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, this. And, iirc, those "Romans" traveled to modern Japan and got the idea for the Roman bath... so Roman baths were totes invented by the Japanese. lol I love Japanese back-patting in their media, so great.

At least they used only Japanese actors with "the noses" to play the Romans. :P

John Wayne as Genghis Khan.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-14 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That casting choice will never not puzzle me. Outside of the fact that he's not of the same race, John Wayne should not be in that time period.

The sad thing is the role may very well have killed him.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It only bad when white people do it because American white guilt.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It also might have something to do with the fact that Japan is such a homogeneous society that casting a movie full of white actors fluent in Japanese would be difficult. America, on the other hand...there's lots of Asian American actors
Not saying that Japan doesn't have race problems though but false equivalence much?

Well, duh.

That's almost certainly because most of the reaction toward media is toward US-produced media, and even then it's US-produced mass media. When was the last time you went looking for a Japanese/Chinese/Korean film of a Western story, never mind the reaction for it?
