Murphy's Law

[personal profile] mekkio 2014-04-13 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
When was the last time you said something to like, "Oh, that's not going to happen" only for it to happen immediately afterward?

Earlier today I was out with nephew at the local play park/nature trail. (Acres and acres of woods with paths.) I wanted to take some photos of plants and birds because it is Spring and everything is beautiful. But my nephew was hesitant saying that he was afraid of running into snakes. So, we start down a trail and he's going, "Can we just go to the playground? I don't want to go walking. There are snakes here." To which I went, "Oh, you are being silly. We are not going to run into any snakes. The most we are going to see are birds. Maybe some squirrels. But no snakes."

And at that moment an almost three foot Rat Snake slithers across our path not even six feet ahead of us.

To say the least, we went to the playground after that. No photography was done that day.

By "went to the playground", do you actually mean "ran screaming to the playground"? Because I'm imagining the latter and it's entertaining.

Nope. We went to the playground. I didn't want him to freak out because of the snake. (I don't want him to be afraid of snakes. Have a healthy respect for them so that he knows to leave them alone and give them a nice distance? Yes. Be terrified of them. Nope.) So, when the snake crossed our path and he started to get a little scared I told him, "Hey, don't worry. It's gone. Besides, that wasn't scary. That was cool. Wasn't it cool? Look, let's go to the playground instead, okay?" And I acted like it was no big deal and since he is little guy, (six years old) he followed suit.

Aw, your responsible and caring method of handling things is so much less amusing than panic and chaos. :( Lol, but that was awesome of you.

Good on you. I hate it when adults teach kids to be freaked out about things. My m-i-l actually acted like a rational human being so her nephew could pet a snake while she held him, and that was a *good* thing. He didn't grow up irrationally terrified of (and hair-trigger killing) every snake he saw, like his Uncle did.

It wasn't me but my mum. I looked at the sky and said "it's going to rain soon". She countered that it was just getting dark because of the time of day and that was what was making the clouds look grey and heavy.

Not half an hour later I'm bringing the washing in due to rain.

Texted a coworker "I'm fine I'm feeling much better!" after he asked about my weekend.

Threw up in toilet :(

"I can explain my position. Surely, they will understand and we can move forward on this project in a logical way and produce something meaningful."

LOL NOPE.

HAHAHA yes I've done that, but with a relative, not a co-worker.

I offered to meet them more than halfway and they're currently refusing to compromise. My next step is rescind my organization's letter of support and tell them to go jump in the lake. They need me, or at least someone from my department, on this project. Without us, they're up a creek.

I am so jealous I have never seen a wild snake in the woods :(

It really wasn't that big of a deal. I was more shocked because I had just said that we weren't going to see snakes and lo behold here's this snake crossing our path in such a casual manner that if it had lips, it would have been whistling. Some part of my brain immediately went, "Oh, you asked for that."

Maybe if you head to your local nature preserve and announced loudly, "I WILL NOT SEE ANY SNAKES TODAY! NOPE! NONE AT ALL!" you will see some.

haha!

to me it would be a big deal only because I love snakes and pretty much never see them. (not that I would approach it unless I knew it wasn't dangerous. it would just be really, really cool.)

Rat snakes! <3 Snakes are so awesome. I hope your nephew was not too scared though!
