I can't speak for Man of Steel, but The Dark Knight Rises had so many plot holes and stupid plot points that made no sense. If it weren't for Catwoman, it would be entirely unwatchable. At least Iron Man 3 was interesting and had some good lines in it.

Thiiiiis.

And at least you came out of IM3 knowing what they were trying to say (not a whole lot, some soft stuff about how easy it is even now to prey on the racist fears of America, but mostly: Tony Comes To Terms With PTSD). DKR was...trying to be topical, something about the 99% or the 1% but they're both bad, but wait, maybe not, oh and people are horrible, oh and if there's a woman around your main hero, he's going to have sex with her whether or not they have a single romantic exchange...

Nolan's films have a real chess-piece problem that came to a head in DKR. It was a lot of "Well, we need for this thing to happen" and then moving the characters into place so the next thing could happen. Absolutely no joy to it.

IM3 was goofy and not, y'know, stellar, but it was at least trying to have fun. DKR was like a "no fun allowed" zone, unless you're a stereotypical 90's fanboy who's only idea of "fun" is a game of "who can punch the hardest." (Which isn't a bad part of "fun" but really, a movie needs more flavors of fun than just that.)

Nothing says you're sorry like a Loki gif.

Whoops.

I always associate him with the song Dear Dictator by Saint Motel - "It's not too late to say you're sorry, it's too late to truly mean it."
