Not really sure what your problem is. It is totally possible to have a non-romantic relationship and do the things in the tags.

I think maybe you just need to educate yourself on asexuality. Also stop reading fic that annoys you and has identities that you don't understand nor seem to want to know about.

Not OP, but I'm an asexual and have no desire to educate myself with these bullshit tags that don't tell anyone anything and could easily be replaced with something more descriptive like "I'm not yet certain".

Good for you for celebrating your ignorance!

Good for you for making everything harder than it needs to be, just so that you can feel more special.

Seconded hard.

I can't stand the online asexual community's fondness for overlabelling and specialsnowflaking.

I've only told two people about being asexual and that was before I found tumblr. Now I keep it to myself because I don't want to be associated with that bullshit. :/

I told one friend when I started figuring stuff out, but now she sometimes bring up to some people when it's not even relevant.

It's really embarrassing, but I haven't found a good time to tell her not to.

Wow, that is incredibly rude. It doesn't matter what a person's sexuality is; you don't go around announcing it on their behalf.

Forgive me; if you aren't looking for advice, please disregard the following:

I would suggest just bringing it up the next time you're one-on-one with her. It doesn't have to have any real preamble to it; just be like, "hey, I gotta talk with you about something."

And good luck, anon.

I am SUPER late to the party, and since this anon, I bet you won't see this, but seriously, thank you for this:

"Forgive me; if you aren't looking for advice, please disregard the following:"

Sometimes I just want to vent about things, but I've found if I do so to people, they always feel the urge to "fix" it. Often I'm not looking for help, just to blow of some steam, but I appreciate that they want to help...what I appreciate less is how annoyed they often seem to get when I don't want to immediately follow all their wonderful advice. It's the reason I never talk to anyone about my problems, they only make it worse. This little phrase? Would've saved me a lot of stress. Awesome. Thank you for that, seriously.

This is not the asexual community that is doing this.

you mean they need to educate themselves on silly terms that the tumblr crowd have made up? i think op could find something better do than that

and lol yopu seriously think ~platonic kissing~ is a real thing?

Re: ?

DA

and lol yopu seriously think ~platonic kissing~ is a real thing?

Uh, I platonically kiss my friends on the cheek all the time, and in theory I'd be fine with kissing them on the mouth, as well, just so long as tongues didn't get involved.

Closed mouth kisses and cheek kisses can be romantic, but they aren't inherently romantic imo.

Re: ?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'm from an area where it's perfectly acceptable to platonically kiss relatives on the mouth (just a smack on the lips, and usually only really close family, like parents/grandparents).

However, I don't really get why you'd use that as a fic tag...

Re: ?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, some kissing can be platonic, particularly in certain cultures. Pretty sure there aren't any cultures that consider extended open-mouthed kissing platonic, though.

Re: ?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I live in one of those places.
But it's so casual that you might as well tag the fic "cutting tomatoes" or "bus taking" if such even occurs in the story.

Re: ?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-14 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I would have agreed with you some years ago.
Now? I wish all the people using those terms and labeling themselves with them educated themselves, because it's obvious many of them only want a special snowflake label and don't even know what it means.
