There's no fandom angle here. But I sympathise.

One of my friends was born in Britain but because she looks 'foreign' people are always asking where she's from. I find it strange, she finds it annoying and verging on racist. She has a local accent!

So yeah, you're here now, you don't want to identify with where you were born (at least not at the moment). I'd lie too, just to stop the annoyance.
