id much rather ~violate these dudes rights to not submit to a dna test than let a rapist walk free, hands down. get samples of every dude in the city if thats what it takes

Look, it's like racial profiling at airports. It's ridiculous. The cops in question should investigate the crime instead of, yeah, violating innocent people's rights.

racial profiling is ineffective

they already investigated the crime & are having trouble matching dna to that found on the survivor

which is why they are expanding their investigation by demanding dna testing of every possible person who could have been present when the girl was assaulted

frankly if most of these dudes dont have alibis then theyre considered suspects & the police are doing the right thing by treating them as such

it's by virtue of their presence more than it is by their sex which is why theyre taking samples from guys in that specific area rather than everywhere lmao

An entire school campus is not a "specific area," though. They could've been a half mile or more away from where it happened.

By all means, take samples from the people who were in the building during the time period when it took place, that's reasonable. But the entire school? No.

And quite frankly, if they don't have any better way to narrow down the list of suspects than metaphorically shooting at random into a crowd and hoping they hit someone, then either there is no evidence or the police are incompetent.

a school campus closed off to the public is pretty specific & if the dudes dont have alibis then yea theres enough reason to ask for dna samples. its a small private high school and theyre convinced one of those ~527 guys is a rapist so i for one am glad theyre doing what they are, i hope the rapist is pissing in his pants

though you seem to be implying youre familiar with french law and believe this measure is illegal so youre more than welcome to explain, otherwise idc abt ur ~but menz civil rights spiel

No, it's really not. My school campus was closed to the public. It also was about two and a half square miles in size, so it was possible to be on campus and be a half mile or more away from any particular building. Also, alibis don't mean much without multiple people to corroborate them, because people can lie to cover things up and other people can support them in that lie. Someone who is completely innocent can also not have an alibi if they were by themselves the whole time.

It's not about men's rights, it's about civil rights in general. I don't believe that the government or the police should have the right to force anyone to submit any kind of samples unless they have probable cause to suspect the person of a crime, and being somewhere on the same campus is not probable cause. Otherwise, hell, someone was murdered? Round up everyone within a four-block radius and take their fingerprints and DNA! They're suspects because they were in the same general area, right?

That's not how it works, and that SHOULDN'T be how it works, in France or anywhere else.

do you have a source on how big this high school in particular is bc otherwise your argument on its size holds no water to begin with, though i still think the size doesnt matter, the police are doing a gr8 job being proactive abt finding this rapist

france isnt the united states, they werent acting on probable cause. i think at most you could compare it to reasonable suspicion which is apparently enough to issue subpoenas in france

note that this is more or less the police's last resort, their other options produced no results and they are desperate to find this rapist, which should be entirely understandable to you. your murder comparison is fallacious & your arguments are pretty ethnocentric
