the book is so, so focused on precious piper

Uh, it is a memoir, I don't know why you would expect a memoir to not focus on the person writing it.

actually, i'm perfectly okay with that. but it constantly goes on about HER privilege and what she's going through, without much self-awareness on how the other people in the prison have it worse or the social/psychological effects on prison. for someone with a private, liberal education, you'd have expected her to pick up on things like: "Some of these people are in and out of prison due to issues stemming from poverty, abuse, etc and in fact we're failing them by shutting down educational programmes in prison and not properly rehabilitating them." THAT is what the show does, and that's why I really like the show. The book does NONE of that, and is honestly too focused on Piper. That's just how I feel. :/
