This makes me worry for the friends of mine who come from actually oppressive and conservative families - a lot of my female friends with conservative families are highly taken care of but also have little to no personal freedom, and their families' mentalities is that as long as these girls are under the family's roof, they will be treated like little girls (even in their early 20's)...but that means they have little to no practice for when they leave, and their families may not be the most supportive once they do. It's setting them up for disaster, and given this was almost exactly my mom's situation, I know all too well that this sort of upbringing can take decades to recover from/learn from. D:
