Hound of Baskerville in BBC Sherlock.

In polls it always comes out bottom. I think it's more favoured in fandom than with the general public, though. I've met quite a few on tumblr who love it.

That's such an odd episode for me. I don't dislike it at all, but twice I watched it and my attention wandered so much both times it was hard for me to follow and enjoy. I really /want/ to like it, but it seems set against me, lol.

I think that's the general opinion.

I always tend to prefer episodes where the cast are marrooned in another location than their usual setting. I wouldn't want them to do it often - the concept often produces the worst writing, if nothing else. But I can't help myself.

That reminds me of the Stargate SG-1 episodes where they got stuck in places and how much I loved those. But they traveled in almost every episode, so I suppose that's a little different from characters who don't usually travel.

The thing is I completely love the Baker Street setting. So how come my favourite is one where they leave it?

Although there is a great deduction sequence in Baker Street at the start of the ep.

I'd imagine it's sort of like the appeal of a very in-character AU. Seeing what they do if you put them somewhere else.

That is such a good point. AUs are my favourite fanfics of all time as well.

Although away-episodes only work because the usual setting has been established well beforehand. So they have to be really sparing.

I adored that one too, it ranks as one of my favorites consistently.

Bottom of the list for me is Blind Banker for sure, though.

For sure. The Blind Banker is so culturally dodgy. It reminded me of an old Baker-era Doctor Who episode actually, the Talons of Weng-Chiang. All that hokey Chinese stuff. I think that might have infected the writers.

I considered Hound the best episode of season 2 by far.
