"Arena", from Star Trek TOS. Everyone else is laughing at the guy in the glittery Godzilla suit and Shatner's throwing rocks at him and stuff, but the actual plot of the episode made several very good points about prejudice and assumptions of right and wrong, when it's not always so clear.

I'm actually pretty sure most devoted fans like that episode. It's just infamous among non-fans because of the ridiculous costume. I'd bet most of the people who laugh at it haven't even watched it or don't remember what it was about, they just remember the fight.

Yeah, that's fair - it's not hated so much as scoffed at. lolGORN, etc. But the Gorn had a darned good reason to hate the Federation folks, and I remember when I finally saw the episode I was shocked at the fact that it was actually not that goofy (as opposed to stuff like "Spock's Brain") and actually GOOD.

(Also, the Gorn costume was on display as part of a sci-fi costuming exhibit in my hometown museum a few years back. It's actually really freaking cool when you can get a good look at all the detail that went into it. As a costumer, I was very impressed. It's only on old, low-definition camera that it basically looks like Godzilla in a sparkly toga.)
