Well being the Doctor is a bit Mary/Marty Sue-ish of you (and frankly given how unbalanced the Doc is, even in the classic series, a bit dubious), but I can understand not wanting to be a companion. I mean, how many of those guys and girls left the Doctor without being mentally scarred (or slammed into a planet) in some way? People in search of a happy ending in the Who-verse ought to hope to be a supporting one-shot character. It is the only safe way to go. It is your fantasy though, if you want to imagine stroking Sexy's console, then go for it.

Well you could be abducted by an insane toungeless madman who mistook you for his own true love who just happened to be your doppleganger.

Poor Five, his regeneration really sucked didn't it. He couldn't even keep his companions safe, even on the one cricket-themed adventure he had.

Not that I know what the worst would be in this case, but it would probably be bad. Very bad. And cricket-themed.

Eh. The last three companions have all been hot chicks having romantic adventures with the Doctor, so it's not exactly 100% Mary Sue free, either. Being the Doctor still sounds like more fun.
