Have you ever read "Whatever happened to the caped crusader"? It's the only thing that lets me deal with the Joker conundrum.

It's a comic about the Batman mythos; basic premise is that it's Batman's funeral, and various people get up to talk about how they killed him. Turns out that, when Bruce dies, his "reward" is being reborn to be Bruce Wayne/Batman again.

The way I look at it, if that's true, then all the time's Joker's broken out and killed people? Not in the same "universe", so it makes sense that Batman doesn't kill him; Joker hasn't done that much this time, and since none of them can remember the other times...

Granted, that's my headcanon for it, based on the comic, not actual canon based on the comic.

Of course, there are some past events that get referenced to, but I figure those are echoes from a past universe/history repeating.
