The slippery slope matters when you have powers and means that they do. That they are indeed "Gods amongst men."
And it's not just the slippery slope you have to worry about but how society sees them. Do you really want a world wide panic to happen because Superman decided to go rogue? There goes the stock market.

INJUSTICE SUPERMAN :p

It seems to me like if society at large is really insistent on having the Joker six feet under this should be quite possible to achieve.

The hell thing is not actually Batman's fault but yeah, might contribute to why I'm not enamored with Batman these days... that stuff just frustrates me, so many crazy plot-gymnastics just to keep the Joker alive. //sigh

Batman couldn't abide the actual murderer getting away. Of course, catching the criminal meant exonerating the Joker.
It's really every other part of the Gotham Justice system that's failled, since there were so many other murders they could have tried him for save that one.
I mean seriously, how has a politican not run on a "lets get the death penalty in Gotham" platform? Hell, how has every politician not?

And I really doubt some cop or reporter is going to be like, "Man. That clown who keeps murdering kids disappeared. Someone start a missing person's case!"
And there is a huge difference between a corrupt politician and someone that murders people over and over and over and over, who escapes from prison over and over and over, and who can only be defeated by one person.
Honestly, if I lived in Gotham and this asshole dressed like bat kept letting the murdering clown loose, I'd already hate him.

If anyone is to blame it's the court system. They are the ones who say that Joker should be allowed to live. They are the ones who are not making sure that he is being housed in a place that can hold him. It's not Batman's place to do such things. He is not an officer of the law.
Think Jack Ruby killing Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald killed JFK. Ruby killed Oswald. People weren't hailing Ruby as a hero for killing him. Why? Because it wasn't Ruby's place. He was not an officer of the law. Society did not give him permission to kill Oswald. And that's what is happening here too. Society has given Superman and Batman permission to fight the bad guys on their behalf but not kill them.

The Joker has killed and escaped repeatedly. Obviously the court system in Gotham can't handle supervillains (which is why they need a superhero). So why does Batman keep sending him right back to the place Batman knows he will escape from? Hell, if he doesn't want to kill him, Batman can make his own prison in the middle of Antarctica.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-17 12:08 am (UTC)(link)I do not dispute that Bruce is an Asshole though. This is a known.

Everyone who knows him would probably agree. Hell, Bruce would probably agree too.

I hope I am not coming off as too aggressive. :P

DC's problem is that they keep making the Joker do worse and worse crimes, and it keeps looking more ridiculous when Batman and Gotham City do nothing to permanently stop him.

The way I look at it, if that's true, then all the time's Joker's broken out and killed people? Not in the same "universe", so it makes sense that Batman doesn't kill him; Joker hasn't done that much this time, and since none of them can remember the other times...
Granted, that's my headcanon for it, based on the comic, not actual canon based on the comic.
Of course, there are some past events that get referenced to, but I figure those are echoes from a past universe/history repeating.
