YES, G'KAR

B5 kinkmeme, you say? You wouldn't happen to have a link to such a meme on you at all, would you? For reasons, of course.

And G'Kar is definitely my fave of the ambassadors. His and Londo's relationship gives me life. He is an amazingly awesome character.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-17 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly IMO through a long stretch of the third season, Londo and G'Kar were the best things in the show.

And given how much awesome the third season contained, that wasn't an easy feat.

Here you go: http://b5meme.livejournal.com/

Its not been super active, sadly (forever sad that no one has filled the Sinclair/Delenn/Sheridan prompts).

This secret really makes me want to watch this. I need a new show and one with good character development. I was desperate and thinking about watching Farscape for like the 5th time.

You should watch it. B5 has a lot of amazing characters. I only got into it recently, and it quickly became one of my favorite shows if not my favorite. Its got great character development and the whole mytharc thing is really good.

Fair warning, the first season is a little slow. I didn't fall in love with the show until the second season.

First seasons tend to be iffy with a lot of shows. It usually takes me about 8-12 episodes to get into a show anyway.

(This is Babylon 5, right??? It'd be so dumb if I start watching the wrong show.)

Yes, this is Babylon 5.

the first season is honestly REALLY slow to start. like i got recced the show much like you are but it was torture plodding through S1, but it's very important to watch it, because it's what is setting the stage for all the far superior stuff later on.

[personal profile] illiadandoddity 2014-04-18 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. The show is really at it's best in seasons 2-4, I think. That's when the most interesting plot happens, though you definitely need the setup in season 1.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-18 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Do it. The characters, specifically G'Kar (pictured) and Londo, grow with the years and the events.

B5 can be very cheesy at times, and some of it is a bit dated at this point. But overall, it's quite good, and it definitely has a host of compelling characters.

It also boasts one of the best canon ships in the genre, from my perspective. It's handled differently from John/Aeryn, but I think it's just as well done (assuming you're interested in such things...).

Thanks for your input, potato! I am interested in sexual tension- so I hope that's some of what I'll see with this pairing.
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2014-04-18 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Not sexual tension so much as a slow build of feelings between two people from very different cultures that is really believable.

That being said, there is absolutely a sexual tension pairing (a couple really). It just isn't really the main pairing of the show. Oh, and there are several non-canon ships with tension that can absolutely be read as sexual.

Yessss. I'm totally into slow burns. You guys are getting me all hyped up and it's not on Netflix or Amazon! I have to acquire it through other means. :(

philstar is right, but...there is sexual tension during some of the build-up, and it's fun!

True. And one particular awesome scene.

Wahoo. That's all I'll say. :)

Yes to this secret. I love everything about this show, but G'Kar is probably my favorite character (though Delenn and Susan come close). And no matter how much love Londo gets, I still think G'Kar has the best arc.

I totally understand both facets of admiration for G'Kar. He makes an amazing spiritual journey *and* he's sexy as hell.

G'Kar is the awesome. Actually, it's really hard to go wrong even if you narrowly focus your affection for one of the B5 characters :)

I would argue for a caveat: Franklin.

It seems like they could never figure out what to do with him, and as a result he tends to come across as kind of ridiculous.
philstar22: (Neville)

[personal profile] philstar22 2014-04-18 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Very true. I liked the idea of the stim storyline because its sort of like people who need pain killers and get addicted to them, but they never really followed through enough with it.
a_potato: (Default)

[personal profile] a_potato 2014-04-18 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeeeah. IIRC, they only really covered his abuse of stims in one episode, and it felt like it came out of nowhere. If they had developed his addiction over the course of, say, half a season, it could have been really powerful.

Maybe you remember this better than I do, but did he go on walkabout right after the stim issue, or was that a completely separate impulse?
