When people write "breath" when they mean "breathe." It makes my mental reading-voice screech to a halt in the way that standard homophone-confusion (which also bothers me) doesn't, because the words don't even sound the same. Why is this so common?

It's to breathe and to take a breath of air, right? I ask because I've never noticed, so I'm probably doing it wrong. (

That's correct -- breathe is the verb, breath is the noun.

haha, that one is so common. I also run into "bathes" for "baths" a lot, which has the same screeching-halt effect on me. But English spelling is such a clusterfuck that I can't really blame anyone for final-e confusion.
