-"serie" is not a word, it is not the singular of "series"; series is not plural

-"for fuck sake" is incorrect...it is for the sake of fucks, therefore should be written and said "for fuck's sake"

-when people say "i could give a shit", the full meaning is "i could give a shit, but i don't"...so saying "i could give a shit" implies that you actually do not

"For fuck's sake" works if it is "for the sake of fuck" (singular), not "for the sake of fucks" (plural). Then it would be "for fucks' sake". (I personally prefer the former but usually just write it FFS)

OMG, that "serie" thing. I meant to comment on it yesterday when it was in one of the secrets. I hadn't even seen it before...was like "that's not right, is it...?"

To be completely pedantic, series is both singular and plural.


And it's "midriff", not "mid rift", dammit! Similarly, it's "intents and purposes", not "intensive purposes"!

I don't like when people say "weary" rather than "wary". It comes up surprisingly often for such disparate words.

"I could care less" means you still actually care. It should be "I couldn't care less."

And this one is really pedantic, but "less" vs. "fewer" bothers me. Especially when stores use it wrong. (The express lanes should be "10 or fewer" items not "10 or less" items.)

I'm sure there are more (as I am horribly picky with grammar), but I'm blanking at the moment.

ok so for some other ones that bother me, aside from typical its/it's, their/they're/their, and your/you're (which all bother me)...

Saying "it doesn't phase me" instead of "it doesn't faze me". That's the only one I can think of right now but there a few more (probably others will come up with them). But that one really bugs me.

When people write "breath" when they mean "breathe." It makes my mental reading-voice screech to a halt in the way that standard homophone-confusion (which also bothers me) doesn't, because the words don't even sound the same. Why is this so common?

Also, people need to stop misusing the word "literally" in my presence.

I hate when people misunderstand the purpose of the construction "...in which..."

It's used to avoid ending a sentence with a preposition (e.g. "I shall travel to the cave in which it lies"). But I see so many people who seem to think that it's something to be randomly shoved into the middle of a sentence for no discernible reason. Bonus points if the person manages to also end the sentence with a preposition (bonus bonus points if they end it with "which," which I've seen people do).

I wish I could think of or find an example to better express what I'm trying to convey, but I can't at the moment.

I have so many I'd be here all day. So my #1 most hated one is defiantly instead of definitely. It makes me rage, I see it so often.

My roommate and I have started telling each other the hilarious wrong words we come across in fic. I can't remember any off the top of my head, but we see a lot of them.

A variation on the shit-giving: "could care less" being used to mean "couldn't care less". If they could care less, that implies that they do care. If they couldn't care less, then they don't care at all.

1. I say "I could give a shit" or "I could give a damn" instead of "I couldn't give a damn" because Toby Ziegler from The West Wing says it the former way. Not because I know jack about the logic behind the phrase.

2. It's slang. I'm pretty sure no1curr.

3. And if you're talking about plural fucks, it would be "for fucks' sake" not "for fuck's sake."

Do people actually use "serie"? That is painful.

Mine are "I rather" instead of "I would rather" and "Suppose to" instead of "supposed." Is it a dialect thing? Because augh

My mom has taken to saying "I looked for it, but I don't find it," which she's picked up from somewhere recently and it sounds off to me. I stopped correcting her grammar a long time ago because she got so offended, but I broke down and told her it's "I couldn't" or "I didn't." But typing it out, it doesn't seem so wrong? I think it's because she's mixing tenses.

That last one, I hear it more and more and it makes me want to weep.
