Re: Have you ever liked a movie/tv show better then the book it's based on?

Lord of the Rings. I like the books, and I really like the world and a lot of the non-movie characters. But the writing style doesn't really work for me completely and I enjoy the movies more.

Hunger Games: I just don't do first person. I can't get into books that use it. I'm not even sure why. I tried to read the books, but I couldn't even make it through the first one.

I'm the opposite for some movies that were novelized. Like while I actually do like the Star Wars prequels, I think all three novelizations are better than the movies. Particularly the Revenge of the Sith one which is actually one of my favorite books.

Children of Dune: I like the first miniseries and the first book about equally. But I think the second miniseries does a good job with the two books it adapts, removes some of the objectionable content, and in general are just better than either book.

I feel the exact same about the Hunger Games books. I couldn't read them, but I loved the movies.

+1 to Children of Dune.

I liked TPM and RotS novels, ESPECIALLY RotS, but the AotC book was a piece of shit imo. There wasn't enough difference between what was on screen and on paper for me to like it. The only thing I liked was the speeder scene with poor Obi-Wan. So ruffled, I loved it~

But yeah...I hated AotC's novel. *sigh*

I must have a similar outlook to you on LotR. I like the books. I like the movies. The two mediums work for what they are, though I love having the visuals the movies give.

Dune - I came at that backwards, though if the early 80s Dune movie were the only example, I like the book better for the detail and the lack of pointlessly silly additions in the movie. The Dune Messiah/Children of Dune miniseries however was what eventually persuaded me to go get copies of the books and try read them again. I still haven't finished CoD though, it's pretty dense, and in a way reminds me of how I feel about LotR.
