I totally agree about the Hunger Games. I like that it expanded on the worldbuilding and details and stuff, because I eat that kind of thing up with a spoon XD

I think the only thing I haven't liked about the movie adaptations is that they left out Katniss and Peeta finding out how Haymitch won his games, and thus the forcefield around the arena seems like it came out of nowhere (at least that's what my friends who haven't read the books say).

I wish they'd included it, partly to make that plot point make more sense, and partly because I love Haymitch and wanted everyone to see him being awesome.

He ran to the very edge of the arena and found out about the forcefield surrounding it. His last opponent threw an axe at him, but Haymitch ducked, then it bounced back off the forcefield and killed his opponent.
