Guess I've got brain problems or something, but I don't think this is creepy?
I mean, I follow the mentioned person's instagram too, so maybe I'm biased or something?
Could someone explain how this is super creepy? I think it's pretty harmless...

It's not that OP follows the instagram. It's the fact that OP tries to eat and drink the same things as the person in question in order to establish a connection.

Oh.
Okay. I didn't understand that, I guess.

I've.. kind of done that?

Not for celebrities or even living people, but someone who I knew via the internet and who's now dead. When that day rolls around I try to eat one of their favorite foods or watch one of their favorite shows or do something else like that to honor their memory.

I think that's more normal for two reasons:

One, you knew them (yeah, yeah, it was on the internet, but you still knew them).

Two, you don't do it every day.

It's something that's interesting to ponder, because I think it's actually kind of a sliding scale. I'll admit that I don't really know where the exact line is. But I think it lies somewhere at the point where fascination/devotion begins to impact a person's everyday life.

I think it's harmless but...weird. It sort of reminds me of something I would have done when I was about 14, and I'm really embarrassed by that part of myself back then.

So dish the dirt not-OP-anon: Whose Instagram is it?

(And seriously, unless dude is getting paid by/kickbacks from the company to do so, who posts a picture of a box of budget teabags?! Really?)

(Anonymous) 2014-04-19 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
It's Gerard Way's instagram.

completely off topic, but...

As an American who likes tea, I can't thank you enough for referring to PG tips as "budget". I have had to convince so many people that no, just because it's an English brand doesn't mean it's "posh British tea" and a suitable small gift.

People actually do that? The stuff comes in bags.

Huh, now I'm wondering when I turned into a tea snob.

An ignorant tea snob. Whether it comes in bags is by the by.

LOL I'm Canadian, so I guess I got it from one-half of the ancestors? There's a reason it's called "tips" IIRC that's what makes it so cheap...it's literally the tips of the leaves that are remaindered after the pricey brands get packed up.

I drink coffee, but have served PG Tips to guests who...were either too polite to complain, or know full well that I'm a cheapskate, and knew what they would be getting, LOL.

You don't recall correctly. It refers to the tips of the plant, i.e. the best bits - a marketing ploy. It's cheap (well, not that cheap - real budget brands are much cheaper) because it's mass produced.

I'm English. It's not as expensive as some other brands but I've never heard anyone refer to PG Tips as budget. Budget tea bags would possibly be a supermarket's own brand and definitely tea bags in their value range but never PG Tips.

I can see why it's creepy but to me it's just more really off-the-wall. Unless this crush finds out what OP is doing, he's never going to be creeped out by it.

I don't, either. So what if you eat what they eat? Lots of people buy clothing or sunglasses or whatever that their celebrity crushes buy, so - who cares?
