avoid my bratty kid sister that's what.

I tried to come out and help dye easter eggs, but our dog has a squeaker toy that was KILLING my ears. I tried to explain a few times that the noise was hurting me, I have Asperger Syndrome and NOISE SENSITIVITY is a part of it, but I got dismissed. Finally I took the damn squeaker when the dog wasn't messing with it and dropped it behind a cabinet where he wouldn't get to it (he has fifty other toys) . My youngest sister SCREAMS and yells at me and is just all "how DARE you. You're being MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAN to him"

She cares more about that dog than her sister apparently.

I have Asperger Syndrome

Diagnosed by a doctor? Just curious, because if so, kinda shitty of your family to not take that into consideration. And if not, you can't really expect them to...

Diagnosed by multiple doctors yes. They seem to get the BIG and obvious things like social stuff, but when stuff like noise sensitivity comes up, I often get told to "grow up" or "be an adult". It frustrates me that I'm made out to be immature for not dealing with a noise that's KILLING my ears and putting up with it.

They've calmed down now though *sigh of relief*

That stinks then. :( Sorry, and good luck with the sister avoidance.

Have you been tested for a hearing loss, instead of a psychiatric disorder? What you're describing sounds like hyperacusis (a thing with the auditory system overcompensating for what it can't hear), and missing social cues by not being able to actually hear them, is actually a thing that can be helped, and has nothing to do with your brain chemistry.

FWIW, hearing loss is becoming more and more common with ipods and gaming headsets etc., but is becoming less diagnosed in children than it should be, because the go-to for kids now seems to be diagnosing them with a psych condition instead.

Just something to think about. If you literally have stabbing pain IN your ears when you hear certain frequencies? It may be as simple as having water behind your eardrums, which can be relieved by simple PE tubes. Whereupon your hearing will improve, and so should your social interactions as well. (I.e., if you are innately speech-reading people, you're not going to be making prolonged eye contact because you literally cannot hear people if you do.)

I'm pretty sure I'm not suffering from hearing loss. It's hard to explain what I feel when it comes to noises, but...it's over stimulation of noises that bothers me, that the noise is too loud or I'm taking in too much. It causes me distress and I just get so upset by it.

Thanks for the information though. I just think my problem is a brain thing, the way I'm wired, not hearing.

I don't know about yours, but in my family, consideration doesn't require a diagnosis...

You're fortunate. Some families are not very accommodating.

God, I would have screamed right back. (a fellow noise-sensitive)

*nod*

I'm noise, smell and taste sensitive.

Should've done it when Bratty Kid Sister wasn't looking either.
