Re: Political incorrectness gone mad?

I have absolutely noticed this. Shit, I've been noticing it for years.

They shout about freedom of speech while decrying anyone who expresses "offense," failing to realize that expressing offense is exercising freedom of speech. They cry about a lack of tolerance for their views while failing to realize that mere disagreement is not intolerance, and that a free society cannot use views that would lead to discrimination as a basis for law.

Basically, they're not really any different. They just wound up on a different political path.

I'm also of the mind that phrases like "if something offends you, YOU are the problem, not the thing" mean "I would like permission to continue being an asshole."

Pretty much.

I've also noticed a lot of them have this weird victim mentality.

Like: "I'm totally oppressed for being white/rich/a dude/all of the above!"

Well, yeah, everybody has shitty stuff happen to them in life, and being white or rich or whatever doesn't negate that or make that pain any less... but odds are you're not going to get beaten up for being a rich white dude.

IDK it just saddens and angers me when they a) completely fail to empathize or understand people's experiences of discrimination, and b) then turn around and claim they're TOTALLY DISCRIMINATED AGAINST EVEN MORE THAN YOU like it's some kind of fucking competition.

The really fun thing about the victim mentality is that they will accuse other people of having a victim mentality, and use said mentality as a reason to dismiss/deride/argue for a crackdown on them. I'll take lack of self-awareness for 1000, please.

And, yeah, there is a profound lack of empathy, and I think that feeds into your point b). Your own feelings seem a hell of a lot more immediate and important when you have trouble imagining the feelings of anyone else.
