DA

Your Grand Canyon example doesn't work for me, because there are plenty of places that I *have* visited where I could imagine easily what it was like to be there, got there, and got exactly what I expected. I've personally never been surprised or awed by things like that. Things met expectations.

I don't think you *necessarily* lose out on much if you watch an LP, see what the gameplay is like, and have an imagination.

Um. In terms of real-life experiences with traveling, I think you might just be the exception. That's definitely not the attitude most people have.

"Oh hey I haven't had sex but I don't need to in order to know exactly how an orgasm feels because I watched some people fucking in a movie so I feel like I was totally there"

To be fair, it's much easier to pay attention to all the little details of the orgasm when you're masturbating and in better control of everything.

At least for me it is.

That... is one of the saddest things that I've ever read.

Uh, I think watching a good, extensive LP would give a person "more" from a game than your watching a movie of the Grand Canyon example. This is more like... I like the Grand Canyon but hate hiking, so I charter a helicopter to fly me over it instead. I got what I wanted -- to see the Canyon -- but I didn't have to put up with the hassle that hiking there would have given me.

But the hiking lets you build the anticipation and gives the sense of accomplishment when you actually get there.

What about people who are unfit but still want to see the canyon in person? Hiking for me would destroy my enjoyment because I'd be exhausted, sweaty, in a bad mood, and not receptive to enjoy the sights. The helicopter would get me there, let me see the canyon, and be a fun experience in it's own right as well (I've never been in a chopper before).

Your experience of hiking does not equal everyone else's.

I agree, tbh. Knowing the story is not the same as playing the story.

I completely agree.
